Sunday, November 27, 2016: “The Power of Words”

Presented by: Chad Minteer

Beyond the power to hurt or to heal, to unite or divide, words have the power to create. It is with words that we describe and represent the reality we inhabit. These representations become reality, our shared dream, the contours of which are often taken for granted and left unarticulated and unexamined.

What do we want to create? What world do we want to live in? Fears and resentments shrink our world, convince us we are separate and divided, and ultimately cause us to act in ways that ensure that we are.

On the other hand, hope, commitment, resilience, determination, acceptance, tolerance, love and a host of other attitudes and spiritual practices and ways of being in the world expand us, remind us how we are connected to one another, and ultimately cause us to act in ways that strengthen the bonds that hold us together.

In the midst of post-election anxiety and looking into an always uncertain future, join us as we participate in Beloved Community and seek our best and highest selves.

Unitarian Universalism honors the differing paths we each travel. Our congregations are places where we celebrate, support, and challenge one another as we continue on these journeys. Unitarian Universalists covenant to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equality and compassion in human relations; and acceptance of one another.

Please join us Sunday at the Vendor Blender and Event Center, 588 Addison Avenue West in Twin Falls at 10:30 AM. The Vendor Blender is located near the old hospital near the intersection of Martin St. and Addison Avenue West. Newcomers of all religious paths or none at all are always welcome. We are handicapped accessible. Child care is usually available. Please park in the rear of the building and use the entrance on the west side of the building.
