The Challenges of Group Decision-Making — 10:30 a.m., Sunday, August 13, 2023

Making a decision can be tough, but it is much more complex when a group of individuals must make a choice together. Our Fifth Principle calls for the use of the democratic process in our congregations and society, but the ways we actualize democratic choice-making are often left unexplained. There are many ways to cast a vote and many ways to tally votes and determine a winner. In our current moment, voting and voting methods are under great scrutiny and consideration. This Sunday join CSI political science professor Perri Gardner for a conversation about the rules we use to make rules.

The Art of Self Care — 10:30 a.m., July 30, 2023

Join us this Sunday as our guest speaker, Lavonne Limpus, M.A., shares her knowledge of the art of self care. The inherent worth and dignity of every person starts at home. With self care and some basic science, our discussion will offer some practical techniques that can lead to self forgiveness and by extension to the forgiveness of others.

Love is at the Center — 10:30 a.m., July 23, 2023

What is at the guiding center of our lives? As Unitarian Universalists, we have drawn upon many sources for inspiration, wisdom, and guidance for understanding our human relationship with one another and all beings, and our planet.

Join us this Sunday as Rev. Jen, our visiting minister from Pocatello UU Fellowship, shares her thoughts on the recent General Assembly.

The Stories We Tell — 10:30 a.m. July 16, 2023

It is human nature to tell stories, whether we are sharing our experiences that way or envisioning fictional narratives that tell us something important about human nature. Our perceptions of reality are reflected in the tales we tell each other. And, more importantly, those same stories demonstrate our fundamental beliefs. This Sunday, MVUUF member Jonathan Thompson will talk about the importance of storytelling as an art that belongs to everyone.

Exploring the Sixth Principle — 10:30 a.m., June 18, 2023

One of the boldest Unitarian Universalist Principles is our 6th Principle — “The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.” This Sunday join political science professor and MVUUF member Perri Gardner for an exploration of this bold goal. Together we will consider the challenges to a true “world community” and learn about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHRM 1948) which strives to create “peace, liberty, and justice for all.” Finally, we will take action to protect human rights by exploring Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign.

Learning about Islam — 10:30 a.m., June 11th 2023

Understanding other religions is helpful in opening our minds and hearts to communities of people who may be different from our own religion. Islam is one of the Abrahamic religions and the second largest religion in the world. Yet, it is not widely understood in the United States, with many misconceptions of their beliefs. Join us to learn more about Islam and what it means to be Islam in the United States and in Idaho.
