Sunday, February 25: “Spiritual Quilts”

Presenter: Julie Merrick

Much like a beloved hand-made quilt, spiritual practices can summon comfort, beauty and love into our lives.

We might wrap ourselves in prayer, meditation and mindfulness or be comforted with long walks as we contemplate the beauty of nature. We could keep journals of gratitude and reflection, set aside time for study and inspiration, and create habits of kindness and compassion.

We may wish to embrace a Sabbath time of rest and renewal and attend gatherings, such as church services, where we may connect with others. We all have need of support in our lives and choosing to cultivate practices of the spirit which resonate with our personal search for truth and meaning, will bless our lives.
Unitarian Universalists covenant to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equality and compassion in human relations; and acceptance of one another.

Newcomers of all religious paths or none at all are always welcome. We are handicapped accessible. Please park in the rear of the building. Child care is usually available.

Feb. 18: “The Gutsy Girl: Escapades for Your Life of Epic Adventure”

Presenter: Karen Fothergill

Writer Caroline Paul, one of the first women on San Francisco’s firefighting force and an experimental plane pilot, believes that not much has changed in the century since the Victorian era — “…. that beneath the surface progress, our culture still nurses girls on “the insidious language of fear” and boys on “that of bravery and resilience.” ****

Paul “…. offers an intelligent and imaginative antidote in The Gutsy Girl: Escapades for Your Life of Epic Adventure — part memoir, part manifesto, part inspirational workbook, aimed at tween girls but speaking to the ageless, engendered spirit of adventure in all of us, exploring what it means to be brave, to persevere, to break the tyranny of perfection, and to laugh at oneself while setting out to do the seemingly impossible.” To read the whole review and find out more about the book, please visit brainpickings.org to read  Maria Popova’s article.

Join us as we learn more about Caroline Paul.

February 11: “Is Anything Meant to Be?”

Presenter:  Ray Cross

Many of us feel comfort at the thought that some divine force or God is looking after us and guiding our lives. We may feel protected and led to think that things that happen to us were [or are] “Meant To Be”.  Our service this Sunday will explore this question, and the contemplation which may result.

What do you believe about this question? Regardless of your stand on this issue, join us for the discussion.

February 4: Developing Perseverance

Presented by Collete Hoglund

Individuals who practice perseverance have an intense commitment to what they are doing and seem to be able to sustain this steadfastness even in the face of obstacles, losses and setbacks.

This ancient virtue of perseverance can be part of a fuller and richer life. This talk will explore the concept of perseverance and how spirituality may play a role, roadblocks to perseverance, and how to cultivate perseverance in your life.

The Djembe West African drumming group will provide drumming during offertory.

Unitarian Universalism honors the differing paths we each travel. Our congregations are places where we celebrate, support, and challenge one another as we continue on our spiritual journeys.

Unitarian Universalists covenant to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equality and compassion in human relations; and acceptance of one another.
