September 30th Service: What do Guidelines for Spiritual Life Provide for Us

WE will have a continuation of last Sunday’s topic with Michael Johnson titled: “What do guidelines for spiritual life provide for us – a pathway to heaven, a happier life, greater peace and contentment?”

We will continue our discussion from last week regarding the Buddhist 8-Fold Path plus have our panel of members who took on the challenge to observe the Buddhist 8-Fold Path this past week report to us how they fared, problems they encountered and any difficulties they may have experienced during their observance to maintain adherence to the 8-Fold Path.

The Magic Valley Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship meets every Sunday beginning at 10:30 AM at the Twin Falls Senior Center, 530 Shoshone Street West in Twin Falls. Newcomers are always welcome. Child care is available. For information, please contact Ken Whiting at 734-9161.

September 23rd Service: What do Guidelines for Spiritual Life Provide for Us?

What do guidelines for spiritual life provide for us – a pathway to heaven, a happier life, greater peace and contentment?

For Christians there are the Commandments, for Buddhists there is the 8-Fold Path.  Does this stuff really work and if so… how? Join Michael Johnson in a two-week experiment of sorts.  This Sunday – we will discuss the Christian Commandments and the Buddhist 8-Fold Path. Michael Johnson will ask for volunteers willing to commit to one week of being aware of the guidance, doing their best to follow the guidance and then, the following week … participate as panelists to tell us how they fared.  We start this week – so hopefully be prepared to participate both this Sunday and next.

This Sunday, we will read a sermon by the Unitarian-Universalist minister, Rev. Scott Alexander, a well known Unitarian-Universalist minister serving the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship in Vero Beach (Florida) titled “Answering the Religious Right With the Big Heart of Universalism.”  We will then consider carefully how this sermon applies to our fellowship and the community in which we live.  A discussion will follow.

September 2nd Service: Water Communion

Like water flowing to the sea, we have returned from the mountains, rivers and quiet places where we spent some of our days this past year then once again returned to our beloved community.

As we come together for our first service of the “new” church year we will celebrate both new beginnings and reminisce together. Members and guests are invited to bring water from their summer adventures, be they from travels far or near (even from your home water supply).

We will be sharing our stories with each other as we participate in our uniquely Unitarian Universalist ritual of water communion, so please be prepared to offer a sentence or two, not only where the water is from but perhaps more importantly, what meaning it holds for you.

The Magic Valley Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship meets every Sunday beginning at 10:30 AM at the Twin Falls Senior Centerr, 530 Shoshone Street West in Twin Falls.  Newcomers are always welcome. Child care is available.
