Sunday, November 29: “Caste in America” (Online Service)

Join our guest speaker, Bill Hackett of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden, as we explore the theme of caste in America. Issues of social-justice have been at heart of ongoing grievances and protests by people of color for centuries. As our UU fellowships in the middle of the western United States tend to be largely composed of white audience members, many of us lack the visceral connection, and understanding of the reality surrounding people of color. Bill will discuss his engagement with a local chapter of Black Lives Matter, and his attempts to move away from being just another clueless and privileged white guy…. Join us this Sunday at 10:30, (Mountain Time)

Unitarian Universalism honors the differing paths we each travel. Our congregations are places where we celebrate, support, and challenge one another as we continue on our spiritual journeys. As UUs, we covenant to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equality and compassion in human relations; and acceptance of one another. Newcomers of all religious paths or none at all are always welcome.

November 22: “Exiled for Speaking Truth to Power” (Online Service)

Presenter: Rev. Jenny Peek

Over the millennia, we humans have held beliefs so dear that we end lifelong ties of family and friends over dissenting opinions. Yet also we have striven for truce, peace, reconciliation, tolerance and even acceptance of differences. This Sunday, our visiting minister Rev. Jenny Peek of the Pocatello Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will share her reflection on this topic,

November 15: “Healing” (Online Service)

Presenter: Patricia Heeb
(Member: Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship)

It’s been a hard year for all of us with pandemic fears and grief, social upheaval, political destruction, hurricanes, fires, and floods. We are weary to the bone, in need of healing. In this service we turn to Leonard Cohen’s song “Come Healing” which offers a balm for our weary hearts and souls.

Please join us online at 10:30 AM Mountain Time.

November 8: “What Does Gratitude Look Like?”

Our guest speaker this Sunday is Rev. Anne Spencer, Minister’s Assistant, Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple.

The Thanksgiving holiday is just a few weeks away. What does it mean to show gratitude? How do we sincerely say “Thank you” for all that we have received? The Japanese word for gratitude, “Arigatai,” literally means, “difficult/rare to become so.” This term reminds us that much of what we have received, including much that we have taken for granted, is indeed rare and special; this realization can inspire us to cultivate a sense of good fortune and humility for what we have received.

In her message, Rev. Spencer will share some history and insights into gratitude and thankfulness from Buddhist and Japanese perspectives and encourage everyone to try to get out of their gratitude “ruts” and find new things to be grateful for and new ways to recognize and express that gratitude.
