March 5″The Miracle of Forgiveness”

Presented by: Collete Hoglund

Forgiveness has many physical, mental health and spiritual benefits; however, it can be challenging to forgive others or ourselves. We will explore forgiveness from various perspectives including psychology, Christianity, Buddhism, mindfulness and A Course in Miracles.

Regardless of the perspective, forgiveness offers us inner peace and an opportunity to reconnect with others.

And, a note from Elizabeth:

“On March 12, I am preaching about why UUism is important, in the larger world and also in our individual congregations.

It will be SO helpful to me if some of you would write to me and tell me a story about how this congregation—or another UU congregation you’ve been part of—has made a difference in your life. The more stories I get, the better!!!

Remember: stories of help, support and challenge, sent to me directly at uurev@pobox.com  “

Newcomers of all religious paths or none at all are always welcome. We are handicapped accessible. Please park in the rear of the building. Child care is available.

February 26:”A Playground Perspective: Embracing Sexual and Gender Diversity” and “A Declaration of Conscience.”

Presented by: Guest Speaker Kennedy Blair and Host Chad Minteer

colorful-1415969_640Sunday, we will have a special guest speaker, 11-year old Kennedy Blair. Kennedy will present an encore presentation of her wonderful TEDx Twin Falls talk titled: “A Playground Perspective: Embracing Sexual and Gender Diversity.” Need a little shot of hope? When you see an 11-year old talk like this, you can’t help but have some hope. The world is not doomed, because young people like Kennedy – and their supportive families, allies and friends – are going to change it.
As we face uncertain times, there is clarity that we must act, not alone, but together to protect the values of our democracy and those vulnerable populations among us. We need everyone – including you, your friends and your colleagues. Our Unitarian Universalist Association has prepared a Declaration of Conscience (uua.org/declaration) stating in the strongest possible terms our commitment in these times. We will read this Declaration together. For an infusion of hope, and a statement of resolve and purpose, please join us this Sunday.

February 19:”What Attracts People to Unitarian-Universalism?” By Michael Johnson

Please join us Sunday to stop and take a brief look at where we (Unitarian-Universalists) came from, what we believe and what it is that attracts us and others to Unitarian-Universalism.

Michael Johnson will discuss how he discovered Unitarian-Universalism and how much he identifies with what Unitarian-Universalism is and what he likes about it. Please be ready to ask questions.

Sunday, January 29, 2017: “Common Ground”

Presented by: Tona Casella

uuscflowerOur message this Sunday is “Common Ground”. We will explore how our faith and other faiths are different yet similar in both beliefs and actions. We will discover we may have more in common with other faiths than differences. After all, all faiths preach love, forgiveness and hope. Please visit us Sunday to explore this topic.

Sunday, January 22, 2017: “Your Huddled Masses”

Presented by: Rev. Elizabeth Greene

EGreeneThe Statue of Liberty stands with her welcoming torch, inviting all who yearn for freedom to enter the golden door. And yet, the question of who is welcomed and who is not seems to be a complicated one. Do religious people have a special duty to welcome “the other”? What constitutes an open heart?

Please Note: This Sunday, January 22nd, we will have our “New Member Ceremony.” It is this ceremony, we will welcome our new members to our Fellowship. Following our service we will have a “Potluck Meal.” Please bring a food item to share. If you are unable, that’s okay your presence is all we need.

Sunday, January 15, 2017: “The Life that is Waiting for Us”

Presented by: Julie Merrick

campbell-youngersmaller1American mythologist, Joseph Campbell, explored the possibilities of consciousness and radiant living. He believed that we should follow our bliss, diving into and not away from the sorrows of the world.

As we give his teachings consideration, we learn to be present and embrace the rapture of being alive and so open ourselves to the life that is waiting for us.

Due to our service being cancelled this past Sunday due to bad weather we will have our “Second Sunday” special collection to benefit a local charity, The American Burmese Friendship Organization, Inc. They provide needed services to the local Burmese Refugees in our community.

Sunday, January 1, 2017: “Starting Over?”

Presented by: Chad Minteer

With the New Year, we have an opportunity to reflect, to renew commitments, and to consider the year ahead. Sometimes this can be daunting, and sometimes we can set unrealistic expectations for ourselves. Do we really have to start over? Or can we start from right where we are?

Join us as we consider helpful perspectives for beginning the new year in hope, in love, in community.
