Sunday, September 14, 2014: “Spirituality and the Well Within”

Host: Karen Fothergill

A Video Presentation by Rev. Andrew C. Kennedy
2014 Minister Emeritus
First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

We want to experience the well within, the “deep down freshness,”that renews, restores, and sustains us.
We want to experience a meaningful connection — to others, to the world, to nature, and to the larger cosmos. Moreover, we want to experience something of the mystery and poignancy of life — and to drink deeply of it. Join us for this presentation and discussion.

The Magic Valley Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship meets every Sunday beginning at 10:30 AM at the Twin Falls Senior Center, 530 Shoshone Street West in Twin Falls. Newcomers are always welcome. Child care is available.

Sunday, September 7, 2014: “Where is Our Holy Church?”

Host/Presenter*: Rev. Elizabeth Greene

Rev. Elizabeth Greene takes her sermon title from a classic Unitarian Universalist hymn, “Where Is Our Holy Church?” This is a particularly good question for a faith tradition that values deeds over creeds, and love over law, a tradition that expects each soul to find her or his own path to Mystery. Rev. Greene will explore the values that make Unitarian Universalism a spiritual path for our time: nurturing the soul and helping heal the world.

* This will be the first service presented by our new minister, Rev. Elizabeth Greene.

Newcomers are always welcome. Child care is available.

Sunday, August 24, 2014: “Are We Christians Too?

Host/Presenter: Ken Whiting

Our sermon this Sunday was delivered Sunday, August 24, 2013, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.  When people first hear about our fellowship, they can sometimes be confused and wonder, “What kind of church or fellowship is the Unitarian Universalist faith really?” How can a church actually affirm and celebrate Atheists, Agnostics, Humanist and theological Naturalists and other religious thought all under one roof? Rev. Marlin Lavanhar will attempt to answer this question in the video we will view this Sunday. Please visit us this Sunday and bring a friend who may have similar questions.

Sunday, August 17, 2014: An Evangelical Christian and a Unitarian Universalist on a Plane

Host/Presenter: Anne Martin

In an increasingly contentious and violent world, there is decreasing tolerance for diverse opinions, especially in the areas of religion and politics. In some areas of the world, being a religious minority is a prescription for death. Even in our country, as people become more entrenched in their views, the risk of violent encounters increases and the chance of mutual understanding and acceptance diminishes and with it the opportunity to heal and reconcile our differences.

The questions then are: How can we bridge this widening gap? How can we overcome resentment and suspicion of those whose ideas seem diametrically opposed to ours? In a humorous and provocative video, “An Evangelical Christian and a Unitarian Universalist on a Plane”the Rev. Tandi Rogers shares her story of an encounter with two Evangelical Christians on a long plane ride to Seattle and shows that it is possible not only to bridge the gap, but to find friendship in unexpected places. Anne Martin will host the service on August 17th at 10:30 at the Senior Center in Twin Falls.

Please join us for discussion on this topic.

Sunday, July 27, 2014: The Importance of Asking Questions

In many ways we are quite lucky to live in an age with vast quantities of information and knowledge. Using the methods of modern science humanity has unlocked the power of the atom and discovered many of life’s secrets. Yet even with the vast amount of information that we hold at our finger tips there are still many questions that confound us. This Sunday we will explore some of these questions. We will also discuss the importance of asking questions for which we may never be able to discover the answers. Please join us.

Sunday, July 13, 2014: “Emotional Freedom Technique”

Presenter: Julie Merrick

Host: Dale Bostock

Emotional Freedom Technique is a type of meridian tapping which combines principles of acupressure and psychology. Simple and effective, the process can (among other things) help to relieve pain, heal trauma, clear phobias, and release limiting beliefs. By stimulating the body’s meridian points while activating an emotional state, memory or belief, we are able to diffuse our body’s habitual response and become open to new ways of processing our life experience.

Join us for a discussion of what EFT is, why it works and how to do it!
